Chicago fans of Beyonce Knowles may want to know about legal issues her father is facing. Mathew Knowles was recently granted a reduction in child support for his minor child by the Los Angeles Superior Court. Knowles, who has a minor child with an actress, was originally paying $12,000 a month for child support. He had earned some money playing a few small parts in television shows and playing a role in the movie “Baby Boy” in 2001, but the majority of his income came from his work managing his daughter Beyonce’s musical career.
Knowles worked as Beyonce’s manager until she fired him in 2011. Beyonce fired her father around two years after her mother filed for divorce from Knowles. Beyonce’s mother filed for divorce in December 2009, one month after the actress named Knowles as the father of her child. Beyonce’s parents had been married for almost 30 years when her mother filed for divorce.
The Los Angeles Superior Court found that Mathew Knowles’ income had decreased substantially since he was fired as being his daughter’s manager. The judge reduced his amount of monthly support to $2,500. Mathew was still ordered to pay for the child’s mother’s legal fees, which were $15,000.
If parents in Illinois lose their jobs, they too can ask that a court reduce their court-ordered child support payments. A parent who is the recipient of child support payments may also ask that a court increase an ex-spouse’s payments if the spouse receives a significant increase in salary. An Illinois divorce attorney may be able to answer a parent’s questions regarding whether they are receiving the appropriate amount of child support.
