Anyone who has ever been in a serious relationship is likely aware that they can at times be difficult. While in many cases it is possible to work through the hard times, in other instances the parties involved decide to call it quits. When the couple is bound together by marriage, to legally finalize the split, it is necessary to obtain a divorce. Because these can be complicated most do not decide on that option unless they are absolutely sure it is the best way to go.
This is not to say that a couple that has started the ball rolling on a divorce cannot decide to stop the process. This is illustrated in the recent reconciliation of professional basketball player Kobe Bryant and his wife Vanessa. Over the course of the past few years the marriage has appeared to have highs and lows.
Vanessa originally filed for divorce over a year ago, in December 2011. In the following months the couple was seen out and about both with and without their two daughters. In some cases the couple, who have been married for more than 10 years, appeared to be quite affectionate. Because of this news of the reconciliation was likely not a surprise to many.
This reconciliation will help the couple avoid what was sure to be a complicated high asset divorce. In addition to the property division aspect, child custody and child support matters would have been determined. In many situations reaching these agreements can be highly charged emotionally.
Despite the high profiles of the Bryant’s and likely a greater amount of assets than the average divorcing couple, had the decision to divorce gone forward, the same matters that are addressed in divorce proceedings in the Chicago area would have been worked through.
